Gentle Reads Annotation

The Gentle Reads title I chose is The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick. This was a debut novel for her. It was published in 2016 and is 331 pages. It takes place in present day and is set in the UK.

The main character is 69 year old Arthur who has been recently widowed. Arthur is kind of quirky, has developed routines and has two children, but is kind of estranged from them in the beginning of this story. He has a plant he tends to and a neighbor who has taken him on as a project. It is the first anniversary of his wife's death and he is cleaning out her clothes closet and finds a charm bracelet he did not know she owned and has never seen her wear. This find starts Arthur on a literal journey to find out about the charms and in the process he discovers things about himself, his wife and his two adult children.
